NCAA Tournament Projection

Ok, conference winners get automatic births. I think there are 16 conferences that will only send one team and 15 conferences who will send more than one team or have the potential to send more than one.

I see these teams as "locks" to make the tournament.


ACC - (4) Locks are Duke, Boston College, UNC and NC State.
A-10 - (1) G Washington
Big East (6) UConn, Nova, W Virg, Pitt, GTown, Marquette
Big Ten (6) Wisconsin, Iowa, Oh St, Mich St, Illinois, Mich
Big 12 (3) Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas
CAA (1) G Mason
Conf USA (1) Memphis
Missouri Valley (4) - Wichita St, N Iowa, Creighton, Missouri State
Mountain West (1) - Conf Tourney Winner - Air Force or San Dieg St
Pac-10 (3) UCLA, Arizona, Washington
Patriot League (1) - Bucknell
SEC (3) Florida, LSU, Tennessee
Sun Belt (1) - Conf Tourney Winner - W Kentucky or S. Alabama
West Coast (1) Gonzaga
WAC (1) Nevada

Ok, that fills up 53 spots. Leaving only in reality 12 at large bids.

Possible teams to make the tournament.

UK: Huge win over South Carolina plus they have a good sos, if they go 8-8 they will probably get in. However, if you take an 8-8 UK team from the SEC, you bought have to take an 8-8 Maryland, UVA, FSU, or Miami.

Cincy: I think they need one win, they've got WVU, Seton Hall, and UCONN left. Getting that one win to get in is not going to be easy.

Syracuse: In trouble, probably need two more wins to sew up the deal. They still host WVU, Nova and travel to Georgetown and Depaul. They have to win at Depaul or Gerry Mac and company might be sitting at the house.

Seton Hall: Can you say "Yo Yo" destroyed Nc. St. on the road yet have some bad loses. The fact that they only play Uconn, Nova, W Virginia, Cincy, Gtown and Pitt once really helps them. But their home loss to Notre Dame knocked them down big time in the RPI. Their next two games are at St John's and at DePaul. Win both and they are in. Lose either and they are in major trouble - needing to either beat Pitt on the road or get a few wins in their tourney. I still don't think a team with two 40+ point losses deserves an at-large bid.

California: Letting Cal in bothers me, they play in a weak conference, but will get in because of that. Awful losses to Eastern Michigan, DePaul and Oregon State, but their win over Arizona (a terrible team, by the way) really helped. Of course they showed how bad they are by then losing at home to Arizona State. Still, I think 2-2 down the stretch gets them in (at Wash State, at Wash, home to UCLA, home to USC). They'll probably go 3-1 anyway.

Alabama: Previously left for dead the Tide just need two more wins to make the field after the win over UT. Hey Hearl, wanna come over and watch your boys get rolled out in the first round again this year? [img]/LDPforum/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]

Colorado: Big win over OU huge loss to K. St. need to perform well down the stretch or they might lose their bid to Texas AM. Especially if Texas AM and Colorado play in the Confernce Tourny.

Indiana: Must win out, if they lose to Michigan St. they are done imo, baring some type of miraculous run in the Big Ten tournament.

UNC Wilmington: Must win at VCU this week or kiss goodbye any hopes of an at large bid.

Maryland/FSU: Winner of that game is in great shape, loser needs a miracle. 8-8 in the ACC should get you in, especially if they take these Pac10 and borderline SEC schools.

Northern Illinois: I dont think they make it, 5 teams from the MVC is way to much, of course if they win out who knows.

Arkansas: Must go 3-1 to get in, beating Bama would be huge they also have UT, Georgia and Ole Miss remaining.

Air Force/San Diego St. Loser of the conference needs a deep tourny run to make the big dance if they meet in the finals I think both get in. Especially if Air Force loses, the NCAA likes military schools in the big dance.

Thats really the only teams I see that could make it, I could be wrong. I would do the seeds and fill out a whole bracket but thats just a headache and leads to a bunch of arguments over the RPI. I might do it later though and keep it to see how I fare against the actual bracket.

You most likely are right on both points. Let me ask you a question and that is if before the season started TN would have been told that they would make the tour and be one and done in that tournament (NCAA) would most fans say that they would have had a great season? I for one would have said that before the season but now I want more than "one and done". I would like to see them win the first game for sure.

Alabama is a virtual lock now.

We are 8-4 in the SEC, and will probably finish 10-6 in the SEC.

Wins over ranked LSU and Tennesse put us in.

I think if Miami (FL) wins 2 out of 3 and a couple of wins in the ACC tourny, and you may very well see them in the big dance. I am not a Miami fan, but they have played pretty well at times this year.

March has got to be one of the most exciting times of the year in all of sports. I am a much bigger football fan than basketball fan, but I dont think anything compares to the NCAA basketball tournament.

It would be great if football could come up with some type of playoff tournament to determine the #1 team like BB. I know it's the money thing and want happen in the near future but it would seem that the months of Dec and part of Jan could be used.
